Testing

Had a play around in Zbrush to launch out a quick initial visualisation of what I trying to head towards. Chucked on a quick (and terrible) fibermesh as a placeholder for the hair, sculpted the grin on a separate layer as well.

I have progressed with the head model and I am now modelling the body into it. I have decided to keep the head and body together fro this model as I have imagined the character to be seen in different sets of apparel, so It would be beneficial to have a proper body base mesh underneath.

These are just more process screenshots.

Bits and Pieces

All right so I've been ticking away at some bits and pieces in Zbrush to try and get some good models and really visualize my character, btu that's about as far as I think I can take it with zbrush. I've been trying to retopologize in Zbrush but the program keeps crashing if I attempt an extended section of the model and seems to max out at a certain number of faces, which is pretty low as I am trying to create a low poly base mesh.

So after all this I am starting from scratch in Maya to make a base mesh and then get sculpting some maps for them in Zbrush afterwards.

Mood Boards

Alrighty after scrounging through all of the game characters that look exactly the same as my design and filtering them out so you can't see them, I've produced a mood board with some warrior/wanderer/demon characters. This pretty much covers the whole base for my character, with a mixture of wandering and battle gear, with some demon metal gear fused in there somewhere too.

The second board down here is a compilation of artwork by the mysterious Brom, who is an absolutely legendary fantasy artist, and if anyone is struggling check him out he has some awesome (though wacky at times) stuff that's definitely worth browsing through. Not many artists can create such believable works with such strange and abstract content.

Rapid Viz with Zbrush

Had a quick sculpt on ZBrush with a dynamesh off of a sphere to see how the body might turn out. These are just some different views of the one sculpt, I might play around to see how I could exaggerate some of the features.

Sihouettes and concepts

Alright I've done some quick sketches and had a look at some different body types for this guy, looking at the classic superhero build with some exaggerated shoulders and a thin waist. The Bottom sketch is a trace over the sculpt form the Jim's Junkyard page, (Awesome artist for anyone looking at some wacky faces, check it out!) which helped me out for my next post which is the qucki sculpt I did to achieve something close to this body type. Just looking at where I could cut this model down into sections and planes gave me an insight to how it all fits together.

Previous Artworks

This is a compilation of all of my drawings of my character prior to this assignment... so only drawings after this one actually count.... However, these are useful to me because I can already note many differences in the designs that I have come up with over the years of developing him. This leaves me with some choices as to what I can use, and what I need to change for a better design.
